Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
Q: How many days a week is the school opened?
A: The school majority of the time is opened 7 days a week 9am to 5pm. You should always verify operation days via phone because the schedule sometime changes.
Q: If I am late to class, what will happen?
A: If you are late to class, you will be rescheduled for one of the next upcoming dates we have available.
Q: If I am late to class and I paid online previously, will that payment still count?
A: Yes! Payment will still be valid. You will just need to bring that payment receipt with you again on the day of your rescheduled course.
Q: If I cannot make it in and need to reschedule, what do I do?
A: Please call our office and speak with one of our representatives. We will tell you the next available dates, and get you rescheduled. *Please note that if you need to be rescheduled and paid online previously, your payment will still be valid*
Q: Do you allow Walk-Ins?
A: Walk-ins are welcomed! However, we encourage all of our students to apply for the class online. We give priority check in to those who register in advance. If you are a walk in for that day and we are full, you may or may not be able to take the class that day. *We will get you registered for another day if that happens.*
Q: I am taking my 8 Hour Annual In-Service Training Course with you guys, how soon do you send the information in to the state?
A: ALL security training schools have 7 days to get the paperwork to the state. However, we here at LSTI get the paperwork out to them within 1 to 2 business days. Once the state has it, it takes them about 2 weeks to actually process it in their system.
Q: I took my 8 Hour Annual In-Service Training Course with you guys, however it does not show in the state system/I just received a letter, did you guys send it in?
A: YES! All paperwork ALWAYS gets to the state on time. If something is not showing in the system, it is usually because the student did not fill out their computer bubble sheet properly or they need to complete another annual training. Please just call our office so one of our representatives could give the state a call directly for you.
Q: Do I really have to stay the full duration of the class to receive my certificate?
A: YES! You have to stay the FULL time in order to receive your certifications. It is MANDATED by the state and we will NOT make any exceptions for anyone.
Q: If I am coming in for my 8 Hour Annual Course, and I do not have my Security License you guys request, what can I bring to the class as proof?
A: You will need to contact the state and ask them to send you your training record (or you can print it out from the DOS Licensing Website). This training record page, has the information we will need to check you in/for verification (Such as UID # and expiration). You will be required to bring another type of picture ID in addition to this form.
Q: If I paid online and decide not to take the course anymore, what do I need to do to request a refund?
A: Please call our office. We will look up the payment information, verify everything with you and explain how and when you will get your refund.
Q: How soon will I get my refund?
A: All refunds will be credited back to the credit card used in the transaction.
Q: I am currently looking on the website at your calendar, but I do not see any days/times available, when will you be giving the next class?
A: If you DO NOT see a highlighted date with a time, that means we do not have anything scheduled as of right now for that course. You could always check back at a later time or call the office to inquire. *If you are looking to do the package deal, please read and follow the steps on how to apply for that class in the “8 Hour Pre/16 Hour Deluxe package” Section*

Q: I see you guys are located in Brooklyn, is this true?
A: NO! We are ONLY located in Manhattan. The address on our website is the ONLY location that we have.
Q: What do I need to bring to class?
A: When you register for your class date, a list of everything that you need to bring will come up.
Q: Is there a dress code?
A: NO! We want all of our students to be comfortable, however we do ask that you come looking presentable.
Q: Is there guaranteed job placement?
A: No one can guarantee you a job, so we do not promise anyone job placement. However, we do NETWORK with security companies that are currently hiring. We give all of our students this list of companies once they take courses here with us, as well as send email alerts from time to time when new companies contact us.
Q: I had a license before, what do I do to get my license back?
A: For starters, do not let any school tell you that you need to take the 8 Hour Pre/16 Hour Course again. If you were EVER a licensed security guard in New York State, the state will more than likely still have that 8 and 16 Hour information in their system. If they do, all you will need to do is just get re-fingerprinted and send in a new application to receive a new license. *We encourage everyone to call us so we can explain this process in further detail*
Q: Is your school a licensed school?
A: Yes we are licensed by DCJS. You can verify by visiting the DCJS website and look up the list of all approved security schools in New York.
Q: What is a Unique ID Number?
A Unique ID Number (Also known as UID #) is your NYS Security Guard License Number. It usually starts with 100.
Q: I lost my certificates, how could I get copies?
A : If something happens to your certificates, please call our office to request new copies. You MUST give us a day notice before coming to pick it up.
Please be advised that we do charge $10.00 for a new certificate.
If you have any difficulties or questions, you can always call our office at 212.379.6442 and speak with a school representative.
